Sustainable Development
It is essential that developments provide for both nature and people. Our parish is required to accept its quota of new housing, which is why we take a proactive role in collaborating with stakeholders to reduce the negative impact on the local environment.
We see our task as ensuring that developments deliver a guaranteed benefit to wildlife, upholding the legal requirement for developments to provide at least a 10% increase in biodiversity net gain.
We’re advising Vistry on the Limes Land development and the Town Council on the proposed redesign of the Tenterden Recreation Ground, aiming to retain key wildlife habitats, reduce light pollution, and create natural buffers and green corridors.
We are also acting as guardians, defending the protection of nine local green spaces from development. The spaces are offered legal protection under Tenterden’s Neighbourhood Plan, but we know from experience that an active role is required in maintaining that protection. We’re committed to ensuring these precious spaces are preserved and the wildlife they sustain is enabled to flourish into the future.
